Special waste is hazardous to people and the environment, and must be disposed of safely.

WHAT constitutes special waste?
Paints, varnishes; acids, bases and solvents; chemicals for household, garden and hobby use (e.g. cleaning agents and pesticides); medicines, thermometers; empty spray cans.

WHERE and WHEN can you dispose of special waste?

• You can dispose of special waste at any time in the retail outlet where you purchased the item. Batteries, fluorescent lamps, plant and wood protection productsplant and wood waste can even be disposed of free of charge. And from mid-2005, all products carrying the orange danger symbol will be accepted for disposal free of charge in retail stores.

• Up to 20 kg of special waste per resident per year can be disposed free of charge in your own communitys special waste truck. The community will provide information on the disposal dates. Please continue to dispose of used oil at your community collection point.

• Private individuals and small businesses can dispose of up to 20kg of special waste per individual/business per year at the Hagenholz cantonal special waste collection point, Hagenholzstrasse 110, Zurich-Oerlikon, tel. 044 645 77 77, Mon.–Fri. between 07:00 and 17:00.

Please store special waste at home safely and out of the reach of children.
